- European brown hare syndrome (EBHS), also known as viral hepatitis of hares, affects the hare species Lepus europaeus and Lepus timidus. Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), also classified in this genus, is an important and common differential diagnosis. These two viruses are closely related both genetically and antigenically, but they are somewhat distinct from other caliciviruses.
